Spam is unsolicited email - email that you don't want to receive like an electronic version of junk mail.
Spam is sent out as an indiscriminate attempt to get recipients to reply to seemingly amazing offers with the objective of making money. Spam has been recognised as such a problem that in 2003 anti-spamming laws came into effect in the UK. However, about 60% of spam originates in Asia and the USA and is often sent from computer systems that hackers have "hijacked", thus making it difficult or impossible to trace.
Evidence also shows a link between spam and viruses - viruses can obtain and send out email address lists for use by spammers and spam mail can carry the viruses that collect the addresses!
However, Avantica deploys advanced multi-layer anti-spamming services to help detect junk mail before it enters your network. As part of our training services we alert your users to the dangers of spam and educate them how to spot it. If spam does slip through the net they'll know what to do if they receive anything that appears suspicious.
