anti-virus
combatting viruses that hamper your users
What are viruses?

Viruses are computer programs that can spread from one computer to another without the users' knowledge.  Viruses can vary in severity from plainly annoying (displaying messages on your screen) to downright malicious (giving control of your systems to outsiders, automatically transmitting your data to outsiders, or making changes so that your computers fail to operate).

Why would anyone write or send a virus?

On the whole this is done by people who would not otherwise rise to notoriety in real life.  They do it to prove that it can be done and to outdo their peers - they're usually single males under 25 years of age.

What does Avantica do about it?

Firstly, there are thousands of variant viruses in existence, the vast majority of which have been written to infect Microsoft Windows (TM) systems.  We do not run Microsoft Windows (TM) on any of the servers that we supply so the risk of them becoming infected is slim.  Most viruses are transferred inside emails and there are no email users on our servers.  Before any emails are delivered to your users they are inspected by the firewall that protects your network.  Any emails suspected of containing viruses can either be automatically deleted or "quarantined" for inspection by one of our engineers.

If you use Microsoft Windows (TM) desktops we will install anti-virus software that will automatically scan each and every file on every computer in your company each night.  Any files that are found to be infected will be repaired or flagged for replacement.  For anti-virus software to remain effective it needs the latest information on all known viruses.  We therefore arrange for the latest definitions to be obtained automatically every day.

Should a virus slip through the net Avantica's engineers will irradicate all copies during a site visit.
