Spreadsheets were one of the first types of programs to be used on personal computers.
All manner of calculations can be done from engineering and scientific work through to accounting.
You can choose to use Microsoft Excel (TM) or the free OpenOffice Calc program which can read and write Microsoft (TM) files.
If you have concerns about whether all of your computers have properly licenced copies of Excel you can replace them all with OpenOffice Calc and rest assured about your position.
